CVES — College of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery

Legal

Terms of Use & Membership Terms.

These terms govern your use of the CVES website, the CVES Workspace, our education programmes and College membership. They form an agreement between you and CVES — the College of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, United Kingdom.

01

Acceptance and eligibility

By using this website, creating an account or joining the College you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service.

Membership and Workspace access are intended for qualified clinicians, trainees, scientists and students working in or towards vascular and endovascular practice. You must be at least 16, give accurate information about your identity and professional standing, and keep it up to date. We may verify what you tell us and may decline or withdraw membership where information proves inaccurate.

02

Your account

Accounts are personal. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity carried out under your account. Do not share logins, and tell us promptly at legal@cves.org.uk if you believe your account has been compromised.

New registrations are reviewed by the College. Access to member areas begins once your application is approved and, where a fee applies, once payment has completed.

03

Membership and the Fellowship track

The College offers Associate and Member tiers at published one-off prices, and a Fellowship track assessed on application. Each tier carries the benefits described on the membership page at the time you join.

Where a tier is described as lifetime, it means there is no recurring subscription fee for that tier: you pay once and your membership continues for as long as the College operates the service and you remain in good standing under these terms. It does not oblige the College to keep any individual feature, programme or platform unchanged in perpetuity, and it does not survive termination for breach.

Fellowship is a professional distinction assessed against published criteria. Submitting an application does not guarantee an award, and the College's decision on a fellowship application is final.

04

Payments, refunds and cancellation

Prices are shown at checkout in the stated currency and are payable in advance. Payments are handled by our payment provider; CVES does not receive or store your full card details. Where tax applies it is shown before you confirm.

If you are a consumer in the UK, you normally have 14 days to cancel a purchase of digital content or services. By asking for immediate access to the Workspace or to a course you agree that supply begins straight away and you acknowledge that the right to cancel is lost once the digital content has been fully supplied. Where supply has only partly taken place, we will refund on a fair, proportionate basis.

  • Courses, workshops and events: cancel in writing more than 14 days before the start date for a full refund, less any unrecoverable third-party costs. Within 14 days we may offer a transfer to a future date instead.
  • If CVES cancels or reschedules a programme, you may transfer to the new date or take a full refund of the fee paid.
  • Membership fees are refundable within 14 days of joining provided you have not made substantial use of member-only content.
  • Refunds are made to the original payment method.

Refund requests go to legal@cves.org.uk. Nothing here affects your statutory rights.

05

CPD points and certificates

CVES issues CPD points and certificates as a record of participation in College activity. Each certificate carries a unique identifier and can be verified through our public verification page.

These records are issued by the College on its own authority. They are not a statutory qualification and are not, unless expressly stated on the certificate itself, accredited by a national regulator or royal college. It remains your responsibility to confirm what your regulator, employer or appraiser accepts. Certificates issued on the basis of inaccurate information may be withdrawn.

06

Contributing to CVES registries

Registry contribution is voluntary and governed by the Registry Data Statement. In short: you must not enter any information that identifies a patient — no names, dates of birth, NHS or hospital numbers, addresses, or identifying detail in free-text fields.

You are responsible for satisfying local information-governance, caldicott or ethics requirements before contributing, and for confirming that submission of anonymised data is permitted in your institution and jurisdiction. You grant CVES a perpetual, royalty-free licence to use the anonymised records you submit for benchmarking, quality improvement, education and research outputs, always in aggregate or anonymised form.

07

Acceptable use

When using the site, the Workspace, community areas or messaging, you must not:

  • Post identifiable patient information, including images or documents that could identify an individual.
  • Upload unlawful, defamatory, harassing, discriminatory or misleading material.
  • Present College content, certificates or membership status dishonestly, or claim credentials you have not been awarded.
  • Share, resell or systematically download member-only content, course material or guidelines.
  • Scrape, crawl, reverse-engineer, probe or interfere with the service or its security, or attempt to access accounts or data that are not yours.
  • Use the platform to advertise or solicit without our written agreement.

Community areas are moderated. We may edit or remove content and suspend accounts where these rules are broken.

08

Content you provide

You keep ownership of the material you post — discussion contributions, case write-ups, teaching material, profile content. By posting it you grant CVES a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, and distribute it within the service for the purpose of running the College, and to reproduce it in educational or promotional contexts with attribution. You confirm you have the right to post it and that doing so does not breach anyone's confidence, copyright or privacy.

09

Our intellectual property

The CVES name, logo, site design, course material, guidelines, registry definitions, calculators and written content are owned by the College or its licensors. You may view and use them for your own professional learning. You may not copy, republish, adapt or commercially exploit them without our written permission. Requests go to legal@cves.org.uk.

10

Clinical disclaimer

Important

Everything CVES publishes — courses, guidelines, calculators, registry benchmarks, case discussions and AI-assisted answers — is provided for professional education only. It is not medical advice, does not create a clinician–patient relationship, and is no substitute for your own clinical judgement, local protocols and regulatory guidance.

You remain fully responsible for the care of your patients and for verifying any dose, device, threshold or recommendation before acting on it. AI-generated output can be incomplete or wrong and must always be checked against primary sources.

11

Service availability and changes

We work to keep the service available and secure, but we provide it on an “as available” basis. Features may be added, changed or withdrawn, and maintenance or factors outside our control may interrupt access. We will give reasonable notice of material changes that affect member benefits.

12

Suspension and termination

You may close your account at any time from Workspace settings or by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate access where these terms are seriously or repeatedly breached, where information given to us is materially false, or where the law requires it. Where we terminate for breach, fees already paid are not refunded. Provisions on intellectual property, licences, liability and governing law survive termination.

13

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Subject to that, CVES is not liable for clinical decisions taken by you or others, for loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill or opportunity, or for indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability arising out of the service in any 12-month period is limited to the amount you paid to CVES in that period.

If you use the service for professional purposes, the consumer-specific provisions above do not apply to you.

14

Governing law

These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.

15

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the current version. Where a change materially affects your rights we will notify members by email or in the Workspace before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the revised terms.
